Avenir Financial Group broker Richard Gomez: Complaints

Richard Gomez has spent nine years in the securities industry and has been registered with Avenir Financial Group in New York, New York since 2013. Previous registrations include Woodstock Financial Group in New York (2013); Rockwell Global Capital in New York (2012-2013); PHD Capital in New York (2012); Caldwell International Securities in Fischer, Texas (2012); Legend Securities in New York (2011); and ten other firms between 2006 and 2010, one of which has since been expelled by FINRA.
 
According to his BrokerCheck report, Richard Gomez is the subject of one customer dispute, one regulatory sanction, and two civil liens.
 
In 2015 Richard Gomez was named the response in a FINRA complaint alleging he “defrauded investors of at least $499,000 through his participation in two separate schemes involving private securities transactions away from his member firm.” According to FINRA’s complaint, Mr. Gomez offered investors  pre-IPO shares in a foreign company that turned out to be fraudulent. The investment’s fund manager and president allegedly used investor funds for their personal expenses, and Richard Gomez earned at least $22,000 in commissions. The action remains pending.
 
In 2015 a customer alleged Richard Gomez, while employed at Legend Securities, violated the New York Consumer Protection Act and New York Business Law 349, breached contract, misrepresented material facts related to an investment, and engaged in negligence and common law fraud. The customer seeks $110,000 in damages in the pending complaint.
 
In 2014 Richard Gomez was the subject of a $43,088.26 tax lien held by the Internal Revenue Service. The lien remains outstanding.
 
In 2011 Richard Gomez was the subject of a $14,881 tax lien held by the Internal Revenue Service. The lien remains outstanding.
