Centaurus Broker Stephen Lard Suspended by FINRA

shutterstock_212979097According to records provided by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), former California-based Centaurus broker Stephen Lard is currently not licensed to act as a broker or an investment adviser. Stephen Lard has spent twenty years in the securities industry and was most recently registered with Centaurus Financial in Roseville, California (2011-2014). Previous registrations include QA3 Financial in Roseville, California (2000-2011); Locust Street Securities in Des Moines, Iowa (1999-2000); WS Griffith & Company in Hartford, Connecticut (1999-1999); MML Investors Services in Springfield, Massachusetts (1996-1998); and The Advisors Group in Bethesda, Maryland (1994-1996). He is currently not registered with any state or firm.

According to his BrokerCheck report, Stephen Lard is the subject of one regulatory sanction, three customer complaints, and one pending customer complaint.

In 2013 FINRA sanctioned Stephen Lard following allegations, among others, he recommended a customer invest $1,150,000 in “speculative, high risk, and illiquid private placements.” Mr. Lard was issued a fine of $5,000 and a 20-day suspension from the securities industry.

In 2013 a customer alleged Stephen Lard, while employed at QA3 Financial, breached contract, misrepresented material facts, acted negligently, and breached his fiduciary duty. The complaint settled for $20,000.

In 2012 a customer alleged Stephen Lard, while employed at QA3 Financial, breached contract, committed fraud, acted negligently, and breached his fiduciary duty. The customer is seeking unspecified damages in the pending complaint.

In 2010 a customer alleged Stephen Lard, while employed at QA3 Financial, breached his fiduciary duty in connection to investments in oil and gas and other interests. The complaint settled in 2013 for $165,000.

In 2009 a customer alleged Stephen Lard, while employed at QA3 Financial, breached his fiduciary duty in connection to investments in oil and gas and real estate securities. The complaint settled in 2012 for $65,000.
