Jeffrey Gieseke and Vertical Fund Private Placements

Jeffrey GiesekePublicly available records provided by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) on June 20, 2016 indicate that former California-based Financial West Group broker Jeffrey Gieseke is currently not licensed to act as a broker or an investment adviser. In 2002, a customer alleged Jeffrey Gieseke, while employed at Financial West Group, committed fraud and deceit, misrepresented and omitted material facts, acted negligently, made unsuitable investment recommendations, engaged in elder abuse, and breached his fiduciary duty. The complaint settled in 2003 for $18,000, to which Mr. Gieseke individually contributed $3,000.

Vertical Funds are a series of private placements that include Vertical Recovery Management, LLC, Vertical Mortgage Fund I, LLC, Vertical US Recovery Fund, LLC, and Vertical US Recovery Fund II, LLC. Vertical Funds may have been marketed to investors as intended to purchase real estate notes at a discount, from which they would later receive a profit from a sale. The funds entered an alternative to bankruptcy in September 2015, and their accounting company has been named in a complaint alleging the aiding and abetting of conversion of funds.
