Brett Machtig is The Subject of a Regulatory Investigation

Brett MachtigPublicly available records provided by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) on November 22, 2016 indicate that Minnesota-based United Planners broker/adviser Brett Machtig has been the subject of a regulatory sanction. Brett Machtig has spent thirty years in the securities industry and has been registered with United Planners Financial Services of America in Bloomington, Minnesota since July 2016. Previous registrations include Investors Capital in Bloomington, Minnesota; Raymond James Financial Services in St. Petersburg, Florida; Wachovia Securities in St. Louis, Missouri; DE Frey & Company in Denver, Colorado; Smith Barney in New York, New York; Prudential Securities in New York, New York; and Investment Management & Research. He is a registered broker and investment adviser with 35 US states and territories.

According to his BrokerCheck report, Brett Machtig has received one regulatory sanction and is the subject of one regulatory investigation.

In October 2016 the New York Department of Financial Services launched an investigation into Brett Machtig in connection to allegations that he did not disclose a prior regulatory action. According to Mr. Machtig’s comment on the disclosure, “Upon learning of the problem, I took immediate action by uploading the document to NIPR. The delay was due to an administrative oversight and was not intentional.”

In August 2015 the Minnesota Department of Commerce sanctioned Brett Machtig following allegations he recommended an unsuitable equity-indexed annuity. He was issued a cease-and-desist order and a fine of $5,000.
