Brion Harris Was Sanctioned by the California Department of Insurance

Brion HarrisPublicly available records provided by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and accessed on July 26, 2017 indicate that Maryland-based Summit Brokerage Services broker/adviser Brion Harris was recently sanctioned by the California Department of Insurance and has received a customer dispute. Brion Harris has spent 18 years in the securities industry and has been registered with Summit Brokerage Services in Annapolis, Maryland since 2013. Previous registrations include Cambridge Investment Research in Annapolis, Maryland; Lincoln Financial Securities Corporation in Annapolis, Maryland; AXA Advisors in New York, New York; and the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States in New York, New York. He is a registered broker and investment adviser with 19 US states and territories.

According to his BrokerCheck report, he has received two regulatory sanctions and one customer complaint, and was discharged from a former employer.

In May 2017 the California Department of Insurance sanctioned Brion Harris following unspecified allegations. His California insurance license was revoked.

In 2013 FINRA sanctioned him following allegations he submitted customer subscription documents to his member firm that contained backdated signatures. He was issued a one-month suspension and a fine of $5,000.

In 2012 he was terminated from his position at Lincoln Financial Securities Corporation “for loss of confidence after discovery of backdated client documents used to meet a product closing deadline and for his involvement in referring his clients to purchase equity indexed annuities not on the firm’s approved list.”

In 2011 a customer alleged Brion Harris, while employed at Lincoln Financial Securities Corporation, “did not fully disclose the details nor provide a prospectus for the sale of a variable annuity purchased in November 2010” and additionally “did not disclose the REIT purchased in November 2010 was illiquid.” The complaint settled for more than $342,700.
