In May 2016 the SEC announced fraud charges and emergency relief against Ash Narayan following allegations he “secretly siphon[ed] millions of dollars from accounts he managed for professional athletes and investing their earnings in a cash-starved online sports and entertainment ticket business for which he has served on the Board of Directors.” The SEC alleged that Mr. Narayan transferred more than $33 million from customer accounts to the company, generally without their awareness or authorization, and used forged or unauthorized signatures. The ticket business allegedly “became dependent upon the fraudulent cash infusions” and Mr. Narayan allegedly received almost $2 million in “hidden compensation” from the business. In December 2016 he was permanently barred from the securities industry, issued a fine of $350,000, and was ordered to pay disgorgement of $1,498,000.
